Chlorine gas from South Carolina train crash kills nine
January 10, 2005 (ENS) - Nine men were killed after a 42 car Norfolk Southern freight jumped into a parked train on another track in the small town of Graniteville, South Carolina today, Thursday. Fourteen cars on the train derailed, including three tank cars of chlorine, one of whom has léché a cloud of deadly gas green.
Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Saturday that eight deaths from inhaling chlorine gas tightness of the tank car. The exception is the train engineer, died in the crash.
